Oh the disappointment! Tonight me and my girlfriends had big plans to visit O Ya in the leather district of Boston for some high-end super-hyped sushi. We've had these standing plans for a month now, and when we got there...well it was booked solid. This is basically a reservation only place because it's very small, but we didn't have any because it's Tuesday night in the summer at 6pm... and we all suck a little, and they're booked for the next 2 weeks. So what did we do? The hostess suggested that we go to Ginza in Chinatown down the street if we were interested in sushi. We looked it up, and walked there with sushi on the brain, it's really all I could think about the whole walk over. I don't know where this restaurant went, but it was gone and Shabu Zen was in it's place so we figured that shabu didn't sound so bad. Hot shabu on a hot and humid 90 degree day in the city, yeah hey why not. The shabu was good, they have my favorite thai tom yum broth, but they didn't have taro which I really enjoy in my shabu. We got prime rib, chicken, tofu, veggies, and udon noodles. I would say that this shabu place was pretty darn good, and the prices were just about average for shabu which is in the area of $20/person. It wasn't as good as Kaze Shabu also in Chinatown (which is pretty awesome), but it was better than Shabu Square in Harvard Square which isn't as fab but it's local for me so I don't mind it. I just love a giant swimming pool full of soup, it is the most comforting food to me besides spaghetti and meatballs.Food B
