socks with sandals...

i'd love to say that i'm laid back and super-cool and nothing bothers me because i'm like one of those free spirits that just goes with the breeze. however, i'm very much not a free spirit and most things in life, even minor, tend to give me some form of anxiety. right now i'm thinking about our honeymoon. we have no flipping idea where we want to go. i do know i don't want: mexico, carribean, or hawaii. so i've decided that abe would be choosing the location and making the travel arrangements. my only requests are that we get to stay in two different places and that there is a beautiful beach. so like a santorini and french riviera combo, or bora bora and tahiti combo, or something like that. there's a lot of really beautiful places in the world, i just wish i had more time off and more money. there's also a lot of little things to think about. i plan on laying on the beach and relaxing with a fruity drink for most of the day, but i'd also like to have the options for some activities and really great food. i want to come home with gorgeous pictures, and a great tan, and a souvenir or 3. but i don't want to feel like there's tons of tourists everywhere and they're invading my romantic honeymoon. - not that i'm romantic. it's a very delicate balance where relaxtion needs to meet sights and activities. it was like perfect in phuket where we pretty much were stranded at our villa, but we could find our way to other beaches and rent a boat and get away to snorkle when we wanted to, but it was still secluded enough to feel like a very private vacation. too much seclusion = bad. i love abe, but if i need to spend 24 hours a day alone with him in some tiki hut for 10 days, we will run out of things to do and talk about there's no doubt about that. i don't think we're any closer to finding our dream destination but we do want to book it this summer, so the clock is ticking for this part of the wedding and it's the most important part!

Weekend wrapup

the long weekend of perfect weather is over. that was crazy weather right? memorial day weekend usually has like one downpour at some point generally. one of my work friends is at home right now instead of at here at the office because 2 hours in the strong sun burnt her to a crisp and she's downing Valiums and trying not to move an inch. i laughed, then i gave some sympathy. this kind of burning is pretty foreign to me, but at the same time i do know what a bad burn feels like and it totally ruins your life. abe and i got burnt in Phuket and we didn't touch for 42 hours except to aloe each other and then put the aloe back into the fridge. seems like everyone who got sun this weekend really got it good. i am a total sun worshipper, but in my older age i'm toting along sunscreen (i fear wrinkles).

kittery was really fun. i actually didn't believe that outlet shopping saved people money. i was so wrong. i got 2 polos at jcrew for $15 each (normally $42ish), a solid tank for $5.99 (normally $14ish), a cardigan for $29 (normally $35), and abe got two man t-shirts for $15 each. so we got great deals, i actually said to myself that i only wanted to buy things that were really underpriced otherwise there was no point. and now, after a weekend of shopping and eating, i feel really poor. and so what do i do when i feel poor? i internet window shop!

First lobsters

Chauncy Creek in Kittery Point, Maine.  after some outlet shopping in kittery we went to this lobster shack for our first lobsters of the season.  this place was awesome.  it was a byob, bring anything you want, sit at a picnic table in the sun on a pier and order a lobster type place.  this also happens to be the first place that abe experienced a lobster as a child.  he's standing next to a bell (horrible picture on my part) that he tried to ring as a kid.  the sign says: ring this bell to buy a round for everyone.  or something to that extent.

Threadless

Threadless

if you are like me and you really love art, and you love original designs, but you just can't afford to go out and spend thousands of dollars on it. well, i have a solution for us. it's threadless. they not only print t-shirts, but they are now doing original prints of their submitted t-shirt designs. yes they're done on paper and screen printed, but they only screen print about 250 of each one, so actually it's like having an original right? and for only $35. abe and i spent more than that on chinese food for dinner last night. you should check it out if you have time.

it's the weekend baby

i was going to post a picture of memorial day last year, but i don't have one, this one is from bar harbor last year on labor day weekend. i have no idea what i did last year.... i must have done nothing much, but i can imagine that we probably grilled out at yuri's.

Tomorrow we're heading to Marblehead, MA. i've never been here, we're just visiting a friend and thought we'd spend a couple extra hours in the area doing things...what do people do in marblehead? i'll have the answer to that question in a couple days i guess. i hear it's a cute little new england town with little shops and great seafood. i also hope to talk abe into going for a little bikeride. sunday, we're going to kittery for outlet shopping and grabbing our first lobster of the season. and on the big day off, we'd like to go to a bbq. we don't know of any that are happening yet, but we'll be able to talk someone into having one since it might touch 80 degrees!!! woooooo. bring your tank tops and booty shorts and keep cool with a corona, it's that time of year.

MoMa update

Right now the MoMa store is out of control awesome. they have a Japanese thing going on and they have really funny little sushi items, soy sauce dispensers, erasers that look like desserts, and just things that would be considered crazy japanese shit. below is an ice cream ring:

it's britney bitch

This is either my next halloween outfit, or it's britney spears in a way we don't remember her looking: Hot.
"Britney Spears is allegedly in talks to perform at the Palms Casino in Vegas for a tidy sum"

oh my god, i think that sounds perfect for her. but no matter what, if this pans out for miss spears, then i need to go immediately because for the rest of her life she will be one ho ho and snort away from the crazy house. i'm willing to forget these past 4 years if she can get her act together and let ballys work out the kinks.

I'm a survivor who shops

well friends i survived the night. i will not sacrafice one of my Paid Time Off days to sit at home and hydrate, i can do that at work just as well. we don't have "sick days", sick personal and vacation are all bundled into PTO days. so here i am, with a gatorade and circles under my eyes. oh well, atleast it's almost friday and someone reminded me that we will probably get out at 2 tomorrow since it's a long weekend : )

some new interesting things i've seen while online window shopping:
the boyfriend cardigans at american apparel ($44):

and the abercrombie and fitch tube tops. normally i hate tube tops, i think they're like totally not cool if your chest is as flat as mine, they work best if you're like the perfect boob size and aren't too forgiving if you're too big or too small:

super cute right? am i past this, am i too old to wear AF? i think i ask that everytime i see something cute there. but want to know a secret? my tank top is from AF that i'm wearing to work right this moment with a little cardigan : )

White on White on Yellow

it's time.
i'm going to be one of those really really obnoxious brides who wants to wear white all the time for every single thing: bridal shower, bachelorette party, rehersal dinner, honeymoon, and most importantly i want a backup white mini-dress for after the reception Just in Case there is an after party and i don't want to ruin my expensive beautiful wedding gown bopping around. i'm going to be buying all things white for just these occasions and i can't wait. i am going to buy most of them this summer when they go on sale and then i'll be fully loaded for next june : )
white white white.

Omg.

Abe and i decided to go for a day trip to Kittery, Maine this Sunday. Hopefully the rest of the northeast decides to hit the cape, newport, and bar harbor letting us outlet shop and find some good lobsters in peace. so i email the three choices that the phantom gourmet had listed for kittery to abe.

Me:
Bob's Clam Hut

Chauncey Creek Lobster Pier

Warren's Lobster House

Abe:
Omg. That Chauncey Creek – I’m like 99% certain that is where my parents took me for my first lobster.

Me:
Omg?

Abe:
I think that was worthy of an omg.

It was a total flashback to my childhood. You know how I remember the oddest thing? Well that place used to have this gangway that you had to walk down… and then on the boat/picnic table area was a bell with a sign that read “whoever rings the bells buys a round for all”. I walked up to it and was about to ring the bell when michelle yelled at me.

Engagement Pictures and such

I am not announcing my upcoming nuptials to the world. why? i don't really want to. i have no connections to anyone in my hometown anymore, and further than that, i don't need to be the gossip at the supermarket amongst the moms. it's lovely to do, but i just do not care at all and i think i feel pretty awkward about it. actually i think i feel more like: i haven't lived there for 10 years so i don't want to tell you i'm getting married. but now i'm realizing that most people have engagement pictures taken. abe and i have a ton of pictures together, but what we don't have are pictures where we both look stunning and perfect. wouldn't that be nice? probably. wouldn't it be nice to have pictures of us stunning and perfect in the boston public garden? yes probably.

however, i am thinking about hiring a wedding planner. not one of those like every detail type ones, but maybe just to help me organize the vendors and give me some concept ideas because i think that's what i'm already having the most trouble with. i like a lot of things, i just want everything to kind of flow and go together and right now in my head it's just a jumbled mess. but i don't know, it's just a thought.

I miss NY

I miss the city. I don't know how else to say it but I miss it all.

Pinkberry found

we tried to find a pinkberry for hours.  they're everywhere in the city, but for some reason where ever we walked we just couldn't bump into one.  so after conferring with natasha's iphone probably 6 times we finally found our pinkberry!
finally finding the pinkberry really capped off my weekend in nyc.  i devoured it.  i think they might actually put drugs in it because i don't know how this little treat can be do delicious!

NYC!

we went to new york for the Sex and the City Tour, and it was awesome, totally awesome.  our first stop was at the pleasure chest where charlotte gets her rabbit.  it was really small though so i didn't really stay in there too long.  each stop was about 5-10 minutes, and on the bus our tour guide told us little facts, there was some trivia, and they showed clips from the show.

We also saw Carrie Bradshaw's apartment stoop.  it's actually a privately owned residence on Peri Street in a really gorgeous part of the city where really really filthy rich people live.  we had to like run down the sidewalk and be extra quiet.

After Carrie's stoop, we got Magnolia's cupcakes for everyone on the tour.  they were the best things ever.  i don't even like cupcakes, but these really blew my socks off.  my stomach hurt after, they were way too sugary.

The final stop on the tour was at the bar they used as Scout and they had cosmos waiting for us.  the whole tour was 3 1/2 hours, but i think it was totally worth the time.  i saw more of the city than ever before, and it was really a lot of fun.  the tour guides are all really funny and interactive.  i wouldn't do it again, but i'd suggest it to anyone who loves sex and the city!

First celeb sighting ever.

I'm at pastis and Minnie driver is eating breakfast.

No makeup. Crazy hair. Definitely her.

Scallops!

check out this fantastic meal that abe made for dinner. it's scallops with breadcrumbs, rice pilaf, and broccoli. seems simple, but this is the first time i've ever had scallops made at home. and i'm totally guilty of making the same meals in 2 week rotations. this was a really welcome change for my taste buds.

Beam Joyfully Bitches

"Congratulations to Rachel Sauvageot of Los Angeles, CA! She's the winner of the BridesmaidEssentials.com inaugural search for "America's Best Bridesmaid." In a nod to the huge hit movie, "27 Dresses," contest entries had to be exactly 27 words.

Here's Rachel's winning, 27-word entry about being her sister's Maid of Honor:

As my sister's MOH, I: designed invitations, created innumerable organizational spreadsheets, baked over a thousand cookies and a four tiered cake from scratch, assembled centerpieces, beamed joyfully."

Yeah i'm going to expect that from everyone : )

crazy bus people

there's the 77 bus that runs down mass ave to the porter square T-stop which stops right outside my building. normally i just walk to davis instead because it's a lot closer, but when i walked outside today it was coming down the street so i waited at the bus stop with one other lady. if i had known this lady was crazy i would not have stopped, i would have just kept on walking.

the bus passes by, for lots of unknown reasons i'm sure.

the lady loses her shit.
"what the hell do they think they're doing? i should have gotten that bus number, i hate when people do this shit to me. Were we not clear, why didn't it stop?! i thought it was real obvious we were standing here waiting for the bus. Now i'm going to be late! this is bullshit, what was that bus number....etc." imagine all this in 30 mph winds blowing her big crazy frizz hair everywhere like beatrix lastrange in harry potter.

i was just like lady, i don't even care. i walked away to go to the davis t-station as she was still rambling on to me like i really did care. sure, if i were running late and the bus just passed me by i'd probably be pretty pissed. but i wouldn't go rambling on to a total stranger about it. she looked totally nuts while freaking out as i just stood there looking at her totally blankly.

RIP cleopatra

Cleo died tonight. I knew something seemed really wrong with her this morning. I really wish I hadn't seen her die. That was easily the worst part but I'm glad she waited for me to come home so that she could say goodbye. I'm going to miss her and her attitude. She was so cute. Cleo was my baby. This is her about 4 min before she died. In all the times she has gotten in that blue car she has never layed like that. She hated having her face out in the open. Oddly its my only pic of her face.

Rip girlfriend.

Doctor Drama

i have confirmation that another person i personally know to be normal saw the same Doctor Douche last week and also reported to Natasha that he was a jerk to her. so now i know it's not me, i was thinking it was probably more me than him, but now that i have confirmation i know it was totally him.

i don't have a very great track record with doctors actually. i went to a primary care in high school and she quit to be a stay at home mom after 2 visits. i got into the city and found a doctor at a great hospital who had residents see her patients, which was totally fine, but the first resident i had was a total space shot. she would literally forget what i just said 2 minutes earlier and ask me the same questions, And she snacked on peanut butter and crackers during an appointment. like suddenly she would pull out a little baggie from her coat pocket and eat three crackers really quickly, but it was still strange like someone was starving her to death and she was trying to sneak in a meal. but i was like: that's ok, she's asian and hungry, i'm sure she's smart enough to be here. later, she disappeared and another resident replaced her (who is great). i saw a podiatrist last year to take care of an ugly wart situation, but instead of fixing it, he "examined" my feet and then said: you have really nice feet...or something to that end. which of course totally weirded me out so that i let out a totally noticeably nervous forced laugh. i saw him two more times and that was it. and let me tell you, my copay for specialist visits is 50 freakin dollars, so i'm not about to waste my hard earned cash on someone who i feel is not giving me my money's worth.

my brother had an even more disturbing experience with a doctor. i doubt he reads my blog so i'll tell about it. wait no...i shouldn't. anyways, on his first visit with a new primary care as opposed to a pediatrician, he had a really rude awakening and will now only be going to see the doctor if he's unconscious.

Hostess heaven

Check out the apron that my mom made me. I found the pattern online somewhere and my mom shrank the dimensions to fit my petiteness. I love it and asked her to make me more. She loves sewing so I know she is enjoying it.

Martha!

Look what's in the mail people!! i got a copy on amazon for $13.99. i am pretty sure natasha has an autographed copy, but i didn't to go too crazy i just wanted some helpful home tips.

Rude comes with a copay

just because you're a doctor, does that mean you have the right to correct people - especially patients and make them feel stupid? No. i had an appointment today at an un-named hospital and i could Not believe how rude my doctor was. he corrected me atleast 4 or 5 times during our meeting. and i guess he was kind of right, but i've never been corrected so many times in one hour by a total stranger.

him: where do you live?
me: a new condo complex in cambridge new flooring and central air.
him: ok, i'm going to stop you. a condo isn't a word that defines the building. so is it an apartment or a house?
me: (oh my god how rude).

yes i understand condo was not the right word, but he simply could have asked me what kind of building, which he did not.

him: what kind of medications are you taking?
me: a generic claratin, loratadine from costco.
him: Generic is actually not the right word to use there. loratadine is claratin.
me: (Shut your freaking face)

him: what are you allergic to?
me: trees, ragweed, grass....
him: You're not actually allergic to trees or grass. you're allergic to their pollen. - goes on to talk about the lengthy process of tree reproduction.
me: (that was all real obvious, i'm not 8)
so in the end i decided he was a fully competant doctor and i should continue to see him because just the process of finding someone else and waiting for an appointment to open is too much of a headache for me. but really, he's a total Douche.

Kim's Ugly Crying Face

Its an abe-less week till friday.  you know what that means!  toe painting, magazine reading, and watching keeping up with the kardashians with kim's "ugly crying face".  i should be organizing my paperwork into the new filing cabinet from ikea, but my file folders aren't here yet.  so i figured i should take care of my toe polish that's been there since january and update it for spring so people stop staring at it.

today while i was running past alewife, i saw a gigantic turtle swimming in a dirty nasty pond.  i think he might be a mutant.  an alien-mutant-turtle.  that poor thing, he's never going to find anything to eat in that soiled puke pit.  i hope i see him again so that i know he's still alive and doing ok.  on another animal side note, i was reading the davis square livejournal the other day and some idiot was like: i caught a squirrel and now what should i do with it?  it was a serious question.  i just wanted to be like: why the F did you catch a wild animal, just let it go!  and all these really sensitive people kept telling her to call friendly animal people and vets and all that, but in the end.....the vet who took it, Let It Go.  idiots.

i have to go see the allergist tomorrow morning at 8am.  anything before 9 is just unfair.  abe left the house this morning at like 6 or something, i barely woke up to say goodbye.  hopefully i won't have to do too much thinking while i'm there.

Summer cocktails!

Abe bought a case of stirrings cocktail sodas. Its soda specifically made to mix with your favorite top shelf beverage. I think you can only buy it online though which is the only downfall.

Green bags!

They arrived today! I got them from that infomercial that declares they keep fruit and veggies fresh for like 10 times as long. Ill let you know how it goes but I have faith. There were a lot of good reviews out there.

Basic black

I bought a pair of basic black pumps today by Joan and David. On sale for like $68 and then I got 20% off that so they were like $54 or so. I also got a pair of killer white and beige flats with a little buckle across the open toes. Those are way cuter for both casual and office play. These retailed at $98 and were on sale and then I got 20% off for the friends and family sale and an additional 10% off because one of them was a display shoe. Those were some good deals at the macys friends and family sale!

Power Suits

I need a suit. all the ones i'm looking at are in about the same price range for pants and jacket: $300-$500, i'd like to spend on the lower tier of that. any suggestions? basically i need to go to the stores and try them on, but skipping over the poorly made ones would be nice. i'm not a patient person.

ruth's chris

you are viewing onion rings from ruth's chris steakhouse.  they're about 4 inches around and they have the thickest cut of onion inside that i've ever seen.  abe and i finally made it over there for a good steak and crab leg dinner.  it was almost embarrassing how much food we consumed: calamari, filets with king crab legs, asparagus, and onion rings followed by an apple tart and banana pudding.  it was filling and delicious!  someday i might try something on their menu that isn't steak, but i almost don't see the point.  there's no way i could sit there and smell the steak cooking and then go and order something like fish or chicken, no way man.

Fashionista in the building

i had a great night last night. Gaslight was really cute, but it's definately on the smaller side so groups of 2-3 are best and it's a little higher class than i had imagined. i mean of course we fit right in, but you know what i mean i'm sure....this is not just any after work joint. it's totally for hip people, people with money, or hip people on hot dates.

the fashion show wasn't really a show so much as a display. there were just models walking around in the fall collection dresses and there was a wine, beer, and vodka open bar which was nice. maybe i should have tipped the bartenders....because now i'm realizing that i didn't. the dresses were really nice, but i don't think they were made for my body type though, which is probably good because they are Not cheap. i couldn't believe how many people showed up though considering nothing was actually for sale and there wasn't actually a catwalk for the models. natasha is on Newbrahmin!! two fashion bloggers came over and took her picture because they could not get over her awesome outfit. She's actually listed as a "Party goer"!!

Rocca was awesome. i totally recommend this place to everyone, it's in the south end on Harrison Ave. i had the baked veal and rigatoni, but i really should have tried an appetizer or something too. the place was open and modern with plenty of seating so you're not all on top of everyone else's dates. great service, excellent food, i'd give this place a high mark if i were the phantom. i'd totally go back.

Max or Pazzo

Meet Max or Pazzo. I forget which one this is. He was just shaved for summer and he is ready to party! This is one of Natasha's babies and he is just super handsome. He was just dying to hit up the fashion show with us ladies.

Bright Shirt, big night

i'm wearing the brightest yellow shirt ever to work today. it just keeps getting brighter i think, people are stopping to stare, but generally i get some kind of awkward comment out of it: nice shirt! that's pretty. i took a picture but it really brought no justice to the florescent glow.

ladies and gentlemen, tonight i am going out on the town! something i rarely do. Gaslight for cocktails, a Myre fashion show, and Rocca for dinner. they're the new hotspots of course. i felt really awful the other day when someone was asking me what the new up and coming places were, and i was like i have no idea...and then this other dude rattled off like 8 that he had actually been to multiple times and that i had actually heard of but never set foot in. i'm totally losing my young and hip - vibe! so then to make things even worse, the question arises - what do you wear to a fashion show? and of course if you were going to a marc jacobs show you would Only wear marc. but if you're going to a fashion show of someone who has a name but not a big one, what do you wear? i think i have the answer: tight black pants, heels, and a bright yellow muu mu. this is not fashion forward, this is not suggested for the normal person, but for someone who barely ever leaves the house this option became a reasonable one. i wish i brought my camera.
